About

The Villiera vineyards have been run by Simon Grier since 1983 (ably assisted by vineyard managers Christie Franse and Wayne Daniels) and are approximately 170 hectares in extent. Yields are a conservative 8 tons per hectare to ensure fruit quality.

The varieties planted in the vineyards are 50% red and 50% white. The wines produced are 40% Cap Classique, 30% red and 30% white.

At Villiera, productivity is of utmost importance. Our new pruning techniques taught to the pruning team by Italian company Simonit and Sirch has greatly improved productivity of the vineyard team and uniformity, longevity and quality of the vines.

Product Features

2x Cabernet Sauvignon NV

• The wine was matured for a year in French oak barrels (including 20 % new) before final blending and bottling.
• Classic dark berry fruit with a hint of spice on the nose. 
• On the palate, it is well balanced with rich, soft tannins. 
• It can be enjoyed now but will keep for up to 10 years in good storage conditions.
• Enjoy on its own, or with beef sirloin.
• Alcohol by Volume: 13.31%

2x Merlot NV

• Matured for 12 months in 225L oak barrels, of which 15% were new.
• Brilliant red in colour.
• The aroma shows hints of wood spice and mint, with attractive red berry fruit.
• On the palate, the wine is rich and full with juicy soft tannins ensuring drinkability.
• Has the potential to mature up to 6 years from vintage.
• Enjoy with red meat and roasted vegetables.
• Alcohol by Volume: 13.71%

2x Down to Earth Red NV

• It is bottled early and can be enjoyed relatively young although it will keep for up to 8 years.
• An explosion of spice and dark berry flavours with the tannin caressing the palate. 
• The extra dimension of integrated oak was all that was needed to complete the picture of a modern wine that illustrates the art of blending.
• Varietals: 65% Touriga Nacional, 35% Shiraz
• Alcohol by Volume: 13.71%
