Groundcover Leather Company was founded in 1990 by Justin and Amanda McCarthy. A family business located on a farm in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands of South Africa, Groundcover is the expression of a lifelong passion for leatherwork and a search for a meaningful livelihood.
From small beginnings, we have grown into a sensibly sized, sustainable enterprise and have become well-known as makers of original, finely handcrafted leather footwear and accessories.

Thrilling stuff!
As kids, many of us had a 'thing' for keeping our stuff in little boxes or containers. We're talking little green army soldiers, dollhouse accessories, stickers, marbles, you name it. There was always a thrill in opening that little box to show our friends just how much we could cram inside.
The thrills continued when we got older and invested in things like toolboxes for our tools, tackle boxes for our fly-fishing stuff, or inherited an old biscuit tin from our grandmother (who used to keep her needles and thread in it) so that we could keep, well, our needles and thread in it.
