The immune system is a complex network of specialized cells and proteins that provide a defence against infection and disease in the body. The immune system keeps a record of germs that have been defeated by it so that it will recognize and destroy the germ if it enters the body again. This immunity (protection) is against invaders such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and toxins from outside the body.
Organs and tissues that are important for the immune system to function properly include Bone Marrow, Lymph Nodes and Lymph Vessels, the Spleen, and the Skin. The majority of immune system cells are produced and multiply in the bone marrow. These cells move to other organs and tissues through the blood. The main functions of the immune system are to fight germs that cause disease, to recognize and neutralize harmful substances from outside the body, and fight changes in the body that will cause disease.
Vitamin C is necessary for the growth, development, and repair of all body tissues. It is also a powerful anti-oxidant (protects cells against harmful molecules) that strengthens the body’s natural defences. Vitamin C helps with the production of white blood cells (lymphocytes) which assists with the protection against infection.
Has anyone told you lately that you're a gem? It's a nice thing to be called, isn't it? The word evokes all kinds of imagery: colours, sparkles, preciousness... It's interesting to note that no one ever really calls someone a 'pearl'.
But why not? After all, they are also beautiful, elegant, and sophisticated. Maybe it's because - fun fact - pearls are the result of extraordinary irritation. Yep, it's the truth! If a grain of sand enters and irritates an oyster, it coats it in all the weird and wonderful chemicals and substances that make it a pearl. If only us humans could do the same!
Alas, we can't. But we certainly can take that oyster's troubles and display them in a gorgeous necklace, like our main deal of a 42cm floating pearl sterling silver slider necklace from Pearl Culture - something quite perfect for Mother's Day around the corner. (Hint, hint!)
