Mwenye Hadithi was born in Nairobi in a rambling brick and wood house surrounded by ten acres. His early life was full of animals. He attended London University, studying languages and foreign literature. When his first attempts at short stories and radio plays were sold immediately, he decided to be the next great African Writer. (Mwenye Hadithi is a pen name and means a storyteller in Swahili).
Awkward Aardvark
Aardvark's snoring keeps the other animals’ awake night after night. Something has got to be done! Mongoose calls on the others for help, but it is not until the termites get involved that the problem is solved. This is the story of how Awkward Aardvark came to sleep during the day and eat termites at night.
Cross Crocodile
Long ago on the Great African Plains, it was so dry before the rain came that all the animals were hot, and thirsty, and hungry. All, that is, except Cross Crocodile. This is the story of how Monkey tricked Crocodile into sharing his food with the other animals.
Sleepy Cheetah
Long ago, Cheetah was sandy-coloured and lay snoozing all day on the Great African Plain. There was no need to run to hunt because animals tripped over her. But one day there is a fire, and all the other animals are fleeing. This is the story of how Cheetah got her markings and discovered that she can run as fast as the wind.
Crafty Chameleon
Tormented every morning by leopard and bullied by crocodile, the clever little chameleon managed to get the better of his two oppressors without their knowing how it was done. This book for children between four and eight is the winner of the Kate Greenaway Award.
Laughing Giraffe
In the days long ago, Giraffe was the noisiest animal on the Great African Plain. He shouted a lot and he laughed all the time. This is the story of how the littlest Egret proved to Laughing Giraffe that you don't need to be loud to be heard.
Handsome Hog
On the Great Grassy African Plain Handsome Hog had a beautiful smooth coat and an extremely elegant tail. This is the story of how Handsome Hog lost his looks and became known as Warthog to the other animals.
Human beings are fascinating things, what with all of our senses and such. We all have different favourites when it comes to things like ice cream flavours and pizza toppings, with those who like pineapple on theirs (pizza, not ice cream) being shunned from many friend groups.
When it comes to certain smells, though, there are those that literally everybody loves. Like the famous 'puppy smell'. Or banana bread. Or freshly cut grass. Of course, you can't really walk around with chunks of banana bread hanging from your neck, or roll around in the grass before a date - maybe after the date, sure.
But there is something you can do to smell great and turn heads: invest in our deal on Davidoff Cool Water. No puppies needed!
