About

This is a special older vintage that has been matured in optimal conditions by the Distell Vinoteque at Die Bergkelder in Stellenbosch.

Fleur du Cap (French for “Flower of the Cape”) is greatly inspired by the Cape Floral Kingdom – a wildflower region famed for its natural beauty and rich biodiversity – with each species blossoming in the specific soil and climate best suited to their needs. It is this Cape Floral Kingdom that has greatly inspired our wines to not be defined by a single place or vineyard. Our philosophy is based around the freedom to explore – to find our grapes where they grow best, rather than be constrained by district, farm, climate or even vineyard.

Product Features
  • Awards: 5 Star Platter, Gold International Wine Challenge.
  • The grapes were handpicked when the vineyards were approximately 40 - 50% infected by Botrytis cinerea.
  • After a light pressing, the juice was transferred back onto the skins for a further 14 hours skin contact and then pressed again.
  • The juice was inoculated with pure yeast and fermented at 16 - 18°C.
  • To add further complexity to the wine, it was left on the lees for 80 days.
  • Just prior to bottling it was given a light fining and filtration.
  • Consistently one of the best.
  • Beautifully bright copper, tawny colour.
  • Reveals classic Botrytis characteristics of candied ginger, pineapple and apricot.
  • The palate has caramelised nuts, butterscotch and honey, kept fresh by a fine acidity.
  • Never-ending finish.
  • A wine with immense focus and power, in a tightly coiled frame that will hold it together for decades to come if you can resist that long.
  • The ideal accompaniment to desserts as well as a variety of cheeses.

What's cookin', good lookin'?

In the Northern Hemisphere, typical Western festive foods include things like stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. There's usually snow outside and Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé playing in every mall. In South Africa, we still have Carey and Bublé everywhere, but no snow, and every family kind of decides what their own traditional feast will be. From honey-glazed gammon to snoek on the fire, or even just takeouts, we all just kind of do what we like.

One festive dish we simply cannot recommend enough, though, is pig trotters! No kidding! Sure, they take a helluva long time to cook (about 4 hours), they smell kinda funky and taste even weirder, but with enough salt, pepper, spice and desperation, they're not bad! And the best part is, they're a great source of collagen, which we all know is the latest craze as far as healthy skin and bones is concerned!

Alternatively, you can skip the pig trotters and just check out our main deal on 2 x 700g jars of Harvest Table collagen granules. They probably taste better and won't stink up your kitchen, either.
