About

As a young man, Chris Barnard, founder of Boston Breweries was curious to discover more of the world and to see what lay beyond his African home. Having completed his training in computer studies, at age 21, he explored Europe where he tasted and enjoyed many different styles of beer – from German Weizen to Greek lagers.

When he eventually returned home to Cape Town, he was disappointed to find that his local beer drinking options did not live up to the flavoursome tastes he was accustomed to. Not one to accept things as they are, Chris gradually began experimenting with the brewing process and a few years later, after a fact-finding tour to Southern Germany, Chris purchased a 100-liter system and brewing began to take place. It was not long before demand exceeded his 100-liter capacity. It was at this stage that his dream of building a viable brewery became a reality.

All Boston Breweries products are naturally brewed using malted barley, water, yeast, and hops.

Product Features

Whale Tale Ale (4 x 440ml)

  • There’s a hint of caramel when you inhale this approachable Ale
  • On the first swig of the copper-colored brew, mild caramel aromas continue, balanced out with a slight yet noticeable bitterness
  • The bitterness and carbonation leave the palate cleansed, making this an ideal partner for creamy sauces or deep-fried fare
  • Alcohol by volume: 3.5%
  • Expiry date: 11/22
Boston Premium Lager (4 x 440ml)

  • There’s a definite malty sweetness on the aroma of this full-flavoured Lager. A brazen, rounded maltiness gives the beer a great balance
  •  Leaving a highly drinkable everyday beer for everyday food – think pork, burgers, pizza and meatier fish varieties such as Tuna or Monkfish
  • Alcohol by volume: 4%
  • Expiry date: 11/22
Johnny Gold Weiss (4 x 440ml)
  • Light-style weissbier with the typical cloudy appearance for the style
  • Straw coloured with a foamy white head
  • Bananas and bubblegum hit you on the nose and both flavours, plus a hint of cloves, appear upon the second sip
  • Alcohol by volume: 5%
  • Expiry date: 10/22

33 Degrees South (4 x 440ml)

  • There’s a hint of spice on the nose, but toffee-like aromas dominate

Making a cup of tea for someone is a more complicated process than you first think.

Which way are we leaning: Rooibos or regular? Milk: yes or no? The standard sugar inquiry, a two-part question if the first answer is yes.

And if you have your black belt in tea-making, one final question concerning the tea bag: in or out?

How are you supposed to remember that all if you're making tea for, oh say, 3 people?

It doesn't concern today's deals at all, but we had to think about something while we waited for the kettle to boil.
