2019 marks 20 years of Usborne's bestselling That's not my… series of touchy-feely books for little ones.
Fiona Watt is an Editorial Director and writer at Usborne Publishing. She graduated from Exeter University with a Bachelor of Education in Art and Design. She has written all the titles in the award-winning 'That's not my….' series and many in the highly successful Sticker Dolly Dressing series. She is the sixth biggest-selling UK children's author, with over 10 million of her books sold in the UK since records began.
The That's not my... books may have sold over 20 million copies worldwide, but they could have easily never seen the light of day. Peter Usborne was so against the idea of the 'negative' sounding title that he said they would be published 'over my dead body'. Fortunately, he changed his mind and here we are 50 titles later! For each That's not my... book, Fiona collaborates with illustrator Rachel Wells and designer Non Taylor, as well as other senior figures at Usborne.
That's not my Lion: There are lots of friendly lions to pet in this fun-to-touch board book. Patches of different textures and bright illustrations are combined with very simple text to help develop sensory and language awareness. Babies and toddlers will love turning the pages and touching ears that are “too soft” and paws that are “too rough”.
That's not my Giraffe: Meet five friendly giraffes in this charming addition to the much-loved That’s not my... series. Babies and toddlers will love touching the textured patches as they meet giraffes with tufty tails, fluffy manes and soft spots. The bright pictures and textures to stroke are designed to help develop sensory and language awareness.
That's not my Unicorn: The fabulous 50th title in the much-loved That's not my... series. This sparkly, touchy-feely book features a magical unicorn to talk about, and a little white mouse to spot on every page. Babies and toddlers will love turning the pages and touching the textured patches as they try to find their unicorn.
That's not my Elephant: A delightful touchy-feely book with simple, repetitive text. Bright, colourful illustrations with carefully chosen textures to touch and feel on every page. Helps very young children develop language and sensory skills. Series awarded "Best Buy" by readers of Prima Baby magazine.
They're like your brain's way of saying: you know what the world really needs? Nonsensical story lines that nobody questions and flying cars.
And even though we know they're absolutely bonkers and possess zero relevance whatsoever, we waste no time telling people all about them.
Nobody wants to hear it. You end up sounding like a toddler trying to explain the latest episode of Game of Thrones.
The only dream worth talking about is Martin Luther's. Fact.
Anyhoo, we had a dream we sold out by noon today and spent the rest of our time hanging out with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Home Affairs. Crazy, huh?
